I'm currently enrolled in a B.Sc. programme in Chemistry. Whenever I tell people about this decision, I receive one of two reactions. The first reaction is one of bewilderment and confusion, stating that they are almost two completely incompatible directions. The other reaction is that it's an obvious choice that suits me and my interests well.
These differing reactions are perhaps predictable, but what I find interesting is that I can't detect a pattern about which kind of person has which reaction. Both close friends and complete strangers, both in and outside of the art world, have had both reactions without a single common vantage point to be concerned.
